Maltesholm Castle, a large manor house located in Sönnarslöv, Kristianstad Municipality, Scania, Sweden, has a history that goes back to the Middle Ages. The castle was originally constructed between 1635-1638 by Malte Ramel, a high constable of Kristianstad, who lived from 1684-1752. The castle was a Renaissance manor house, built in brick with three floors, a staircase tower with an elaborate spire, and two crow-stepped gables. It was surrounded by a large moat.
During Malte Ramel's life, the domains were greatly expanded. The castle was completed by his son, Hans Ramel, in 1780 in the style of Swedish classical palace. The only remains of the Renaissance castle are the moat and the year '1680' marked on the facade. Hans Ramel also constructed a 1.3km long stone road leading up to the Mansion through the undulating landscape. The estate passed by inheritance to the baronial family Palmstierna in 1933. In the renaissance garden, there stands a douglas fir that measures 35 meters tall and is over 200 years old.
There is also a gazebo by the classical Swedish architect Carl Hårleman (1700-1753) in the beautiful garden, which is open to the public.
