The Crypt-like Pit in Kernavė's 1,000-year-old Hillfort

In the verdant Kernavė landscape of Lithuania lies Mindaugo Sostas, a 1,000-year-old hillfort, one of over 50 archaeological, historical, and cultural sites enclosed within the Kernavė Archaeological Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. Located near Aukuro Kalnas, a natural hill, Mindaugo Sostas stretches over about 10,800 square meters. It is known for its crystalline crypt-like pit measuring 57x24.5 meters in the south, which hid remnants of buildings dating from the 2nd to 5th centuries, including a clay pot from 1365 AD and various artifacts like Middle Eastern glass vessels and a bronze sword-pommel.
