Zoobotánico Jerez: Century-Old Treasures in Jerez, Spain

The Zoobotánico Jerez, previously known as the Zoológico y Jardín Botánico Alberto Durán, is a zoo-cum-botanical garden in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Established in 1889, it covers 70,000 square meters and has been a green oasis for over a century. The garden displays a diverse collection of unique and century-old trees, including the cedar of Himalaya, different species of Platanus, pines PIñoner, Araar, Celtis australis, Koelreuteria paniculata, Erythrina corallodendron, various palmeras, and unique century-old trees. In 2002, a 'Jardín de los Alcornocales' was inaugurated as part of the 58th anniversary, showcasing the flora of Los Alcornocales. The garden also features an herbarium and germplasm bank to promote botanical research, flora conservation, and education. Despite ongoing efforts, the zoo has faced criticism for the need for more resources.
