Jerez de la Frontera's Enduring 13th-Century Chapel

In a medieval city where roving Moors often blocked progress, one chapel survived and thrived for a thousand years. Here's its story.

The Church of Santiago, situated outside Jerez de la Frontera, is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of religious structures. Originally built as a chapel during the Reconquista, it evolved into a church and was classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1931. Despite much of the city's reconstruction, the church has persisted. Today, it is managed by two associations, the Hermandad del Prendimiento and the Hermandad del Rosario de Capataces y Costaleros.
