Villa Valmarana: Palladio's secret design -- never built exactly as in his architectural manual

The Villa Valmarana, situated in Lisiera, a locality of Bolzano Vicentino in northern Italy, was designed by Andrea Palladio and built for the Valmarana family in the 1560s. The villa, also known as Valmarana Scagnolari Zen, carries a rich history and grandeur. However, rather than a direct replica of the design Palladio presented in his I quattro libri dell'architettura (The Four Books of Architecture) of 1570, the building that stands today reveals a unique story. This divergence may stem from a personal tragedy: Gianfrancesco Valmarana, Palladio's client and a family member, died while the villa was under construction, possibly influencing the deviation from the published plan.
