Vieille Tour d'Avoise: Salt-Watching Tower along the River Sarthe

Vieille Tour d'Avoise, also known as 'Tour à Sel', is a historic monument located in the town of Avoise, Sarthe, France. Constructed in its current form in the 16th century, this fortified tower was used for salt surveillance, helping to monitor boat landings of salt imported from Mans on the River Sarthe. The tower remained mostly intact until the 1960s when, out of safety concerns, it was partly destroyed. Although its current ruins are all that remain today, they still offer a fascinating glimpse into history.
