The Tree Hotel

The Tree Hotel

In the heart of Swedish Lapland, a unique and eco-friendly hotel offers an unforgettable stay amidst towering trees.

If you look in the same direction as Gustav Vasa (in bronze) and slightly upwards, you will see a treehouse and a one-man hotel. It sits 13 meters high among the tree crowns and is fixed with help of guy wires, each of which can carry 1.5-6 tons. There is even a small terrace with an outdoor table. The house was built in 1998 by artist Mikael Genberg as part of his project to explore alternatives for life.

Mikael Genberg is known for his alternative living environments. He also built Hotell Utter Inn, an underwater hotel a kilometer from Västerås ferry dock, and Ooops Hotel, which floats outside Västra Holmen in Västerås archipelago.

In his latest project, he is working on placing a small red house on the moon. As part of the project, a small red house was installed on Globen in Stockholm in 2009.
