On Ven, between Denmark and Sweden, lies the underground observatory known as Stjerneborg, or Star Castle. Constructed by the ingenious Tycho Brahe around 1581, it was intended to safeguard his instruments and isolate his team. Rather than working amidst the elements, Tycho believed the hidden location would offer protection from the wind and enhance productivity. The observatory was connected to the renowned Uraniborg and is mentioned in several contemporary accounts, although some sources refer to it as Stiernburg in vernacular or Stellæburgus in Latin, both meaning 'castle of the stars'. In the 1950s, excavations unearthed the underground chambers of Stjärneborg, which now host a multimedia exhibition for visitors. The astounding discovery site adds to the allure of Ven Island, whose historical astronomy has left a lasting impact.
