The triangular mound on the outskirts of Mataiciai

Norgeliau piliakalnis, located in Mataičiai, Vytauto kalnas, is an ancient archaeological site in Klaipėda region. Situated near Šalpalės and Vytauto crossing, the triangular mound is dated back to 1st century BC – 13th century AD. It was fortified in the 2nd half of the 19th century, likely for Count Oginski. While the mound's original purpose remains a mystery, archaeological studies have uncovered a settlement from the same period just 500 meters to the south. Today, the mound stands as a testament to Lithuania's rich historical heritage.
