The tower with a twist at S:t Johannes Kyrka

S:t Johannes Kyrka in Malmö is a church designed by Axel Anderberg in the Art Nouveau style, built between 1903 and 1907. While it fits the style with its soft, rounded forms, its tower and armoury are located on the north side of the church, rather than the west. This departure from tradition sets it apart from the Gothic revival churches built around the same time. The tower and armoury are made of red brick on a granite base, and about 20 different kinds of natural stone are used in the church's ornaments.

The pulpit at S:t Johannes Kyrka features five sections made of oak, carved by the sculptor Carl Andersson. These carvings depict the life of Jesus, with scenes from the stable, the temple, Jesus's baptism, the bearing of the cross, and Jesus leaving the open grave. These choices of imagery reflect the focus on religious themes in Art Nouveau art. Today, S:t Johannes Kyrka remains an active church in Malmö, and welcomes visitors to observe its unique architecture and beautiful artwork.
