The statue that divides Malmö

In the heart of Malmö, a bronze statue stands tall, its subject a divisive figure - King Carl X Gustav. Erected in 1896, during the Slöjd- och Industriutställningen, it was the brainchild of historian Martin Weibull and newspaper magnate Carl Herslow. The statue, created by John Börjeson, remains divisive because of the controversial figure's reactionary policies and military conquests, all played out during the Scanian War. Despite its impressive location on Stortorget, it has been the subject of controversies ever since.
