Carl Milles struggled to capture the weightless movement of the horse Pegasus, as depicted in Greek mythology. Pegasus, who longed to fly to the gods' home on Olympus, is depicted flying diagonally upwards in Milles' sculpture Människan och Pegasus. However, the sculpture stands on a four-meter-high base in Malmö, with a later addition of a higher granite base. While the sculpture was initially intended for a prominent location in Malmö, it was only placed on a temporary base until a permanent one could be built. Today, copies of Människan och Pegasus can be found in various locations around the world, but there is no evidence to suggest that it was a symbol for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Stockholm.
