Perched atop Tossal d'Alta-riba, a hill ending in a plain, the Castell d'Alta-riba is a fortress in ruins declared a cultural asset of national significance. Its storied history can be traced back to the 11th century when the County of Berga engaged in the reconquest of the Vall de Sió. In the same period or soon thereafter, the castle of Alta-riba was acquired by Count of Barcelona Ramon Berenguer I. However, by some agreement, he was later obliged to transfer control of the fortress to Peter Mir and Bernat Pere.
