The Spanish bishop who funded a hospital and a fountain

Born in Nava de Coca, Segovia on October 31, 1619, Sebastián de Arévalo y Torres studied at the University of Alcalá. He returned to his native Segovia after completing his studies where he dedicated himself to teaching. Known for his charitable nature and benevolent acts, he was appointed as the Bishop of Mondoñedo in 1672 and then Bishop of Osma in 1682. He established the hospital of San Agustín in El Burgo de Osma, founded the Caño del Obispo fountain in Nava de la Asunción, his native town, and served as the confessor and predicator to the Descalzas Reales of Madrid. He died on January 20, 1704, in El Burgo de Osma, Soria.
