Unveiling Melque de Cercos' Church of Santa María: A Journey through Time

In the heart of Melque de Cercos, Spain, the Church of Santa María immerses you in the intricate history of the region. Located at Calle del Pinar 5, the original structure was a single-nave building with a semicircular apse. However, in the 17th century, alterations were made, including the demolition of the apse and the unfinished construction of a Baroque wing due to a collapsed vault in 1980. The church's south door still features three rosettes, inscribed in an alfiz and topped by an elaborate cornice, leading to a ball-shaped fronton. Among the restoration findings was a wooden sculpture, likely of a Saint Bishop with Gothic features, which now resides in the Segovia Museum. Melque de Cercos boasts a replica in its possession.
