Welcome to the Capella de sa Tanca Vella, the first church on Formentera. Located on Carrer del Diputat Marià Serra, the chapel is a part of Sant Francesc de Formentera, the capital of the island. The exterior has a plain, austere appearance, fitting the classical style of Formentera architecture. The interior, however, reveals a secret: few contemporary churches have a barrel vault like the one found at the Capella de sa Tanca Vella. Dating as far back as the 13th century, this church relies on Sant Francesc Xavier for its ecclesiastical needs.
