The church of the Pillar of the Mola: White spires and secrets

The church, dedicated to the Virgin of the Pillar, is one of the three parochial churches of Formentera. Its white spires stand out against the hills of El Pilar de la Mola, and inside, the belfry houses a bell with an inscription suggesting a Dutch origin. Every year, the festivals of El Pilar de la Mola take place. The church was built in 1771, after the locals petitioned the Archbishop Joan Lario for permission. On March 29, 1996, the Consell Insular d'Eivissa i Formentera declared the church a Bé d'Interés Cultural in the category of Conjunts Historicoartístics. The church was enlarged for the first time in 1925 and currently functions as a parochial hall as well.
