The Tagliata d'Incanal fort, built in 1884, is a relic of a military past that still looms over the landscape in the Rivoli Veronese region of northern Italy. Originally built over Veronese marble, it has a plaster layer on top. It served as a hidden military fortress, a mountain of marble on the banks of the Adige with an intentionally oblique angle for added protection. This angle might make it difficult to immediately spot, but it adds expertly to the fortress’s strategic advantage.
