The Commune Leaders Monument: A Remembrance in Villalar de los Comuneros, Spain

The Commune Leaders Monument is a stone structure erected in 1889 in the village of Villalar de los Comuneros, situated in the province of Valladolid, Castilla y León, Spain. A testament to Fermín Vidal, the village mayor in 1889, the monument was built to honor Juan de Padilla, María Pacheco, Juan Bravo, and Francisco Maldonado – the leaders of the Comuneros movement who were executed during the Battle of Villalar in 1521. Inscribed on the monument is the text: 'Este obelisco se hizo por cuenta del ayuntamiento siendo alcalde don Fermín Vidal. Año de 1889' (This obelisk was built by the town council, when Fermín Vidal was mayor. Year of 1889).
