Whiskered in Reading, Pennsylvania, by the cunning Fish Manufacturing Company, this colossal elk stood 7 feet 6 inches tall. In 1901, as a fancy gift from the Milwaukee Lodge 46, this chap strutted its stuff and graced the city. It wasn't just a badge of honor for the Good Deeds of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - it was more like a love song to the town itself. Soaking up the limelight at the Elks Convention parade in 1901, this animated Elk became a legend, not merely an elk-travaganza to the fraternal order's affection for the wild, but a symbol of affection for the town itself. Eventually claiming its throne at the Wonder Lodge in 1927, the sculpture held court there until 1971.
