The medieval frontier castle and seat of the Barony of Orcau

The Castell d'Orcau, designed as a medieval frontier castle and the seat of the Barony of Orcau in Pallars Jussà, is a well-preserved castle located in Isona i Conca Dellà, Spain. The castle is located on a hill of 887 meters above sea level, overlooking the Conca de Tremp and the Conca Dellà.

It is accessible only by the C-1412 road, which connects Isona with Tremp. The castle is inaccessible on the south and west. The castle is a cultural heritage of national interest.

The castle's current renovation project includes the façade, roofs, and balconies, and is estimated to cost €8 million. The large room on the first floor will be restored to become a multipurpose auditorium, allowing the space to be adapted for both scientific conferences and cultural events.

The Castell d'Orcau is the centerpiece of a larger renovation project that includes the recently refurbished Hivernacle, the Martorell Exhibition Center, and the Umbracle, forming a scientific and cultural hub aimed at making Barcelona a European benchmark for science communication.
