The Iron Age Fort: Bubiai Hillfort

Bubiai hillfort is located in Šiauliau rajyonė, near Šiauliai, Lithuania. The hillfort dates back to the Iron Age and was fortified around 1230 AD. Archaeological excavations conducted by Liudvikas Kšivickis in 1902-1906, 1909 and 1911 revealed two cultural layers. The lower layer dates to the Iron Age and the upper layer to the Middle Ages. The findings include remains of wooden structures, fragments of iron implements, shards of pottery, and other artifacts. In the upper layer, archaeologists found arrowheads, spearheads, rattan fragments, parts of a horse cart, a bed, a saddle, and other artifacts.
