Alauna's SWanky Soak: Soaking in Ancient Roman-Era Hot Springs, Normandy's

Fancy a dip in a hot pool, luxury-style, surrounded by 1st-century Roman architecture? Well, lucky Alauna did just that, making the Alauna hot springs of Valognes, Normandy's first tourist destination.

Nestled just southeast of Alleaume, the French commune of Valognes, Manche, houses the Alauna hot springs. These Gallo-Roman thermal baths date back to antiquity, resting on the Left Bank of the Merderet valley. Constructed sometime between 60 and 80 AD, these baths were built right over the natural hot springs themselves, making them one of the earliest tourist attractions in Normandy. These baths were not just for socializing or unwinding but also served as a platform to mingle with the high society of the Roman world.
