The hillfort behind Apvalaso lake

The Alksniu piliakalnis, also known as Onuškio piliakalnis, is located on the Rokiškio region, near Alksniai, Juodupės seniūnija. It is situated on the right bank of the Skuomantai-Alksniai road, about 1.5 kilometers to the right. The hillfort has an oval shape, measuring about 40 meters wide and 30 meters high, with a slight elevation in the center that reaches about 1 meter high above sea level. It is divided into two parts, an upper and lower part, by a 7-meter-wide terrace 1.5 meters below the center. Plenty of pottery, both flat and round, was found in the hillfort. A stone staircase, 15 meters high, rises from the lower terrace, but it was not built using fieldstones. The hillfort is not dated, but it is known that it was destroyed by fire.
