Buniškių piliakalnis rises from the forest in the Lazdijai district of Lithuania, a fortress of earth and timber. From the southern side, a platform surrounds the hillfort, 1 to 1.5 meters below the ground and 2 to 2.5 meters wide. The platform is part of a 32,200 square meter archaeological site, declared a protected cultural monument in 1954. The site includes the remains of a settlement from the 1st millennium BC, where broken pottery was found. Today, the site waits to be explored, a glimpse into the lives of people long gone.
