Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois Russian Cemetery, situated in Essonne, France, is the resting place for more than 10,000 White Russians who fled the Bolshevik revolution. Surrounded by ghostlore and the enigmatic disappearance of dancers, such as Olga Preobrajenska, the cemetery has a tale unlike any other, despite attempts to urbanize the area and close the cemetery. The cemetery, founded in 1879 by a generous English philanthropist, Dorothy Paget, is part of Cimetière de Liers, and includes the Orthodox Church of the Dormition. It has over 5,200 tombs housing more than 11,600 deceased, and is an officially recognized historical monument by the French Ministry of Culture. However, its future remains undecided.
