Chateaubriand's secluded writing retreat: a literary landscape in

François-René de Chateaubriand (1768-1848), a prolific French writer, lived and wrote at Vallée-aux-Loups, 87 Rue de Chateaubriand, Châtenay-Malabry, from 1807 to 1818. The Maison de Chateaubriand, now a cultural institution, is located in the house built here by the brewer André-Arnoult Acloque at the end of the 18th century. It houses period furnishings and documents about the writer. François-René de Chateaubriand planted cedars, catalpas, tulip trees, cypresses, and other exotic trees in the 14-hectare Vallée-aux-Loups park that he created.
