In the heart of Spain lies Melgar de Fernamental, and within it stands a grand edifice: the Church of Santa María de la Asunción. Spanning several centuries, from the 14th to the 16th, this church represents a remarkable fusion of Gothic and Renaissance influences. The original Gothic cross plan was transformed into a hall plan during the 16th century renovations led by master builder Juan de Escarza. One of the most prominent features of the interior is the retablo mayor, constructed during the mid-17th century. The clock tower, elegant in Neoclassical style, was added in the 18th century. Today, this church stands, not just as a place of worship, but as a testament to Melgar de Fernamental's unique heritage. It is included in the Bienes de interés cultural de la provincia de Burgos.
