In the year 974, the Count of Castilla, García Fernández, granted the Fuero de Castrojeriz to the town of Castrojeriz. This charter, one of the first issued in the County of Castilla, addressed the Muslim threat along the Count’s borders by expanding the social base of the county ordinances and equating common villagers with second-class nobles who owned a horse for warfare.
