The 13th-century Gothic portal: a testament to the legacy of Convent of St.

The Gothic portal, now located at the Avenida de la Generalitat roundabout in Sant Adrià del Besòs, Spain, was originally part of the Convent of St. Carmen, founded around the 13th century by the Carmelite order in Barcelona’s El Raval neighborhood. Built between 1293 and 1381, the convent housed residential quarters and a church for the Carmelite nuns. The portal, relocated to Sant Adrià del Besòs in 1968, has since become associated with the city. Two brancals, a flat lintel, and an ogival arch make up the portal, with the brancals adorned with vegetal, animal, and human motifs in the capitols. The arches on the portal are supported by the imposts of the capitols. Constructed from Montjuïc stone, the portal showcases a rich history that continues to captivate visitors today.
