The first millennium BC fort in Pilaitė: a large archaeological site

In the territory of Pilaitė, near the town of Didžiosios Kuosinės, lies a significant archaeological site – the first millennium BC fort in Pilaitė. Covering an area of 116,000 m², the site is notable for its square-shaped earthen wall, which stretches 60x27 meters and stands 2 meters high at its base. With steps and slopes on the southern side, the site also features a large hole in its center, possibly the result of excavations. This site, designated as a cultural heritage object, has been under protection since 1998. The visual protection zone covers an area of 1,486,000 m². The site was first explored by the Institute of History in 1971.
