The Hidden Treasures of the Mūrininkai Mound: Discovering a Historic Svyruonėle

The Mūrininkai Mound, also known as Mūrinės and Rūkainių, is a hidden landmark located on the left bank of Svyruonėle, to the east of a village. Standing approximately 6 to 9 meters high, it boasts a unique quadrangular shape with a 1.5-meter-deep ditch surrounding its base. Covered in weeds, the mound, with a base measuring 25 meters by 44 meters, rises 1.5 meters. It is adjacent to a trench and can be found near the river, an indication of its early importance to its makers. Despite being difficult to spot, the mound houses archaeological remains that span centuries. These include pottery and other objects now exhibited at the Lithuanian National Museum. While the mound's builders remain elusive, it has been dated to the Neolithic era. Today, the mound stands as a curious relic, a reminder of a once-thriving past.
