The forgotten priory

In the heart of the rural French department of Aisne, the Prieuré de Saint-Lambert is a mossy, crumbling remnant of a time long past. Built in the 13th century, it was donated by the bishop of Laon, Elinand, in the 11th century. Originally part of the new regular chapter of Saint-Jean-du-Bourg de Laon, the priory was leased to two ecclesiastics, and then sold to the Abbey of Saint Crepin in 1298, remaining in their hands until the French Revolution. Today, the priory is a protected historic monument, a memory of France's Middle Ages.
