The medieval origins and decay of La Ferté-Vidame castle

The Château de La Ferté-Vidame, situated in the commune of the same name in Eure-et-Loir department, Centre-Val de Loire region, is a vestige of the past. Despite the loss of the main castle, the communs (small castle) are still standing after the passage of time. Erected in the 14th century, the castle had a remarkable journey. Eventually becoming the property of the de Vendôme family, who held the title of vidame of Chartres, it was later passed onto the wealthy banker Jean-Joseph de Laborde who undertook extensive renovations. The castle, classified as a monument historique since 1976 and 1991, endures as a relic of a bygone era.
