The enigmatic and crumbling stone heap of ancient times

Jakų piliakalnis, found in the Klaipėda region, near Lelių village, is an ancient hill. Its height is approximately 45 meters, while its base spans 17-20 meters. The hill is marked by large stones, stone piles, stumps, and fragments of pottery. Its perimeter measures about 105 meters, and an old entrance is visible. Despite its fortified appearance, Jakų Piliakalnis is gradually eroding.

Archeological investigations were carried out at various spots on Jaku Piliakalnis by Rasa Banytė (National Museum of Lithuania) in 1993. A total of 19.25 square meters across eight surfaces were discovered. Jaku Piliakalnis is registered under code A1561 until February 19, 2005. Chrome H. cites Jaku Piliakalnis in the 'Carte und Verzeichnis der vor - und frühgeschichtlichen Wehranlagen in Ostpreußen' (June 1937, Heft 3, page 125, number 26). Gintautė Zabiela writes about Jaku Piliakalnis in the 'Lietuvos medinės pilys' (1995).
