The crypts of Normainių hillfort

The Normainių hillfort, located in the Jonava region's territory near Normainiai and Žeimiai, rises about 48 meters above the landscape. Its oval shape and diameter of approximately 48 meters suggest it was apparently built for something specific, but generations of agriculture and secrecy have left its exact purpose and details unclear. The hillfort is intriguingly buried by reeds, perhaps hiding the secrets within, and is near a power line. An archaeological excavation in 2017 unearthed pottery shards, hinting at its use. Today, it remains a well-preserved monument to an older time. Standing on the hillfort, the Plenta river trickles nearby, and powerlines hum in the background.
