The castle turned over in a peace treaty

Smedstorp Castle, a historic building in Tomelilla Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden, is one of the older estates in Scania. The castle was the seat of the noble Swedish family Bing between 1313 and 1589. After the Bing family, Smedstorp was also owned by the noble Quitzow, Bülow, and Kruus families until 1640. In 1640, Smedstorp was acquired by the Danish Stewart of the Realm Jochum Gersdorff. However, upon the treaty in Roskilde 1658, Scania became Swedish, and as compensation for the island of Bornholm, the Danish crown turned over 18 estates to the Swedish crown, one of which was Smedstorp. Smedstorp was known as ‘Bornholm vederlagsgods’ until 1713. Until 1713, Smedstorp was used for Swedish officers.
