Guardian or Destroyer: The Mysterious Angel of the Abyss in Spanish Cemetery

Josep Llimona's El Ángel Exterminador, also known as El Ángel Guardián, is a modernist sculpture created in 1895. It stands in the cemetery of Comillas, a town in Cantabria, Spain, built upon the 15th-century church’s remains. The sculpture symbolizes Abaddon, a figure from the Book of Revelation, often referred to as the 'Angel of the Abyss'. Known as a bringer of destruction and plague, Abaddon is also identified as Apolyon or the Antichrist in some interpretations.
