The Palacio de Sobrellano, a Neo-Gothic palace built between 1881 and 1888 for Antonio Lopez y Lopez, the first Marquess of Comillas, stands in Comillas, Cantabria, Spain. Catalan architect Joan Martorell designed the building but the first Marquess never saw it finished, as he passed away in 1883 before its completion. Today, the palace is open to the public through guided tours. It has a rectangular floor plan, built in stone from Carrejo and decorated with trefoil arcades and colonnades. The interior features American oak and ebony flooring, and doors of walnut. The most lavishly decorated space, visible from the interior, is the central throne room, with a coffered ceiling covered in gold leaf and eight mural paintings by Eduardo Llorens, depicting significant events of the marquisate. The palace is fitted with furniture designed by Antoni Gaudí.
