The ancient monastery that preserves an 8th century historic mystery

Santa Grata de Senterada, or Santa Maria de Santa Grata, was a pre-Romanesque monastery founded in the 8th century during the Visigothic period. It was refounded by Bishop Possidoni of Urgell before 814, with the approval of Louis the Pious. The monastery was later rededicated to Santa Maria and was home to a community of canons, becoming a significant religious center. Today, remnants of this historical site can be found in a modern chapel dedicated to Santa Grata, located on the north side of the parish church of Santa Maria de Gràcia de Senterada. The chapel, in its current state, is modern, but it has visible medieval stones on its own walls and surrounding walls.
