A Medieval Church Hidden in the Woods of Spain

Deep in the heart of the Spanish Pyrenees, hidden among trees and off the beaten path, lies a medieval church. Sant Salvador de les Bordes d'Estavill, also known simply as Sant Salvador d'Estavill, is a Románic church nestled in the village of La Torre de Cabdella, in the Pallars Jussà region. Until 1970, it belonged to the old term of La Pobleta de Bellveí. The church is located at the group of constructions known as Les Bordes d'Estavill, south of the village of Estavill. Sant Salvador de les Bordes d'Estavill is a Romanic church.

The church of Sant Salvador is not well-documented throughout history. There are few remaining parts, but they allow to see a small and primitive church built around the 10th century. The portal may date to the 12th century. The church has a single nave that is a bit disfigured, almost trapezoidal in shape, and an apse that tries to be semi-circular, but it is not quite round. The church was once covered with a barrel vault, but only a few uneven stones remain, not describing the entire structure well. There is only one window, in the eastern part of the southern wall. The church stands alone, surrounded by trees, a testament to a time long past. Its story is not well-documented, but its presence is a reminder of the people who once worshipped there, and the faith that guided them.
