The ancient hillfort still hidding in the beaver marsh

The hillfort, known as Ožnugariu – piliakalnis, is located in the Ariogalos seniūnija of the Raseinių region, by Daugėliškių settlement. Dating back to the 1st or 2nd century AD, this hillfort is hidden in the bend of the Gynėvė river, on its left bank (dabar - tvenkinys). It is 11,000 square meters in size according to the registration in 2005. In 1996, an excavation of 4 square meters was conducted by Arūnas Strazdas, revealing remnants of chalk plaster. The hillfort has a trapezoidal shape, with a length of 20 meters at the top and 3 meters at the bottom, and a width of 11 meters at the top and 3 meters at the bottom. The west side of the hillfort is visible above the surrounding marsh.
