Montpellier's Ancient Gate: Guarding University Intersection Since 12th Century

The Porte de la Blanquerie, situated at the intersection of Rue de l'université and Boulevard Louis Blanc in Montpellier, France, is a remnant of the ancient city walls. One of the last surviving elements of the 25 towers of the fortified enclosure that protected Montpellier, it dates back to the end of the 12th century, beginning of the 13th century. Originally, the gate was an essential structure of the city's defense system. Today, it is inscribed as a historical monument and serves as a symbol of Montpellier’s past glory.
