Hidden in the shadows of the A75 motorway, a 1300-year-old Roman milestone stands as a reminder of Rome's legacy. Known as the Borne milliaire de Saint-Aunès, it was built around 300 AD and serves as part of a system of milestones that marked the Roman roads and their precise distances. Today, it is a protected monument, classified as Monument historique, on the commune of Saint-Aunès in the department of L'Hérault. Although it may be hard to imagine the Romans passing by here, the milestone is a crucial reminder of the empire's vast infrastructure and reach.
