Sturefors Castle, A Privately Owned Swedish Noble Abode

Sturefors Castle, a private property outside Linköping, by the quiet lake Ärlängen, in Östergötland, Sweden, has been owned by the Bielke Counts since the 18th century. The initial castle was erected by riksråd nobleman Ture Bielke in the 16th century, though only the north wing remains of this building. The current castle was constructed in 1704 by Carl Piper as a dower for his spouse. The design was undertaken by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger. After Christina Piper's death in 1752, it was inherited by her grandson Nils Adam Bielke, and the castle has been with the Bielke family ever since.
