Bjärka-Säby Castle: A Lively 17th-Century Blend in Östergötland

In the heart of Östergötland, dating back to 1632, you’ll find Bjärka-Säby Castle, locally known as ‘Nya slottet Bjärka-Säby’. Situated approximately 2 miles southeast of Linköping, the castle is now home to an active community that has been living there since 1996. Owned by the local congregation of the Pentecostal Church, Bjärka-Säby Castle features two buildings – the oldest part, designed by landscape architect Fredrik Magnus Piper, and the newer part, finished in the 1790s.

The castle houses an eclectic mix of historical artifacts. Among these are portraits of spiritual leaders like Hedvig Ekman, Gustaf Aulén, and Nathan Söderblom, icons from various denominations, a patristic library, and a chapel built in the 18th century due to the devotion of the Pietist Lutheran Hedvig Ekman.
