Strömsholm Castle

A swamp in South-Central Sweden, transformed into a locality, was the center of Europe’s most significant military training in the 17th century. Today, only the finely-tuned stallions remain.

Strömsholm, a locality in Hallstahammar Municipality, Västmanland County, Sweden, underwent a transformation in the 17th century, being converted from a swamp. On this former marshland, Strömsholm Palace was built. For over 300 years, it served as a center for military horse training, providing horses for the Swedish Army. However, by 1968, military training on the site ceased, and today, only civil horse training continues on the land.
