Tidö Castle is a golden gem on the shores of Lake Mälaren. Built by Lord High Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna in 1625–1645, it was once a royal residence and hosted grand gatherings. Today, it is one of Sweden's best preserved Baroque palaces, in the Dutch Renaissance style. In 1974, toy collector Carl-David von Schinkel opened a museum at Tidö with a large collection of historical toys. After a merger with another collection in 2010, the museum was moved out of the castle and its collection relocated to Stockholm. In 2022, leaders of four right-wing parties met at Tidö Castle to negotiate the Tidö Agreement, which paved the way for a new right-wing government. Today, Tidö Castle stands as a monument to both its past grandeur and its continued allure.
