Statue of Two Spanish Artillery Officers in Segovia

The **Monument to Daoiz and Velarde** is a public artwork in Segovia, Spain. It was designed by Aniceto Marinas and honors two Spanish artillery officers, Luis Daoiz y Torres and Pedro Velarde y Santillán, who fell during the 1808 Dos de Mayo Uprising against the French army in the context of the Peninsular War. The monument, located in Segovia's Plaza de la Reina Victoria near the Alcázar, was unveiled on 15 July 1910 by King Alfonso XIII. The monument is intricately detailed, featuring two relief sculptures, the coats of arms of Seville and Santander, and an allegory of history. The statue stands on a wide platform with granite steps, occupying 242 square meters in the plaza.
