Located in Ažušilė village, Ignalina region, Vidiškiai seniūnija, a seemingly ordinary hill named Ažušilės piliakalnis preserves a surprising secret. Overgrown with bushes to blend with the landscape, the oval-shaped hillfort conceals a ditch around its southern perimeter, 28x10 meters in size, 2 meters deep and 2 meters wide at the top. Towering stone slabs, between 15-20 meters high, dominate the hill’s aspect. Constructed from a culturally significant material, the hillfort was dismantled; a cultural monument status was requested on 29 April 2005 (Nr. ĮV-190). Covering an area of 28,400 square meters, the hillfort reveals a fascinating piece of Lithuanian history.
